Airport & Air Travel: 18 Everyday English Words

Build broad recognition of the words children hear while arriving at an airport, checking in, passing security, finding a gate, boarding a plane, flying and collecting luggage.

Learning objectiveRecognize high-frequency airport and air-travel words well enough to follow ordinary signs, announcements, directions and family travel conversations.

What to do

Picture one trip: arrive at the airport, enter the terminal, check in, pass security, find the gate, board the plane, sit down, land and collect luggage.

This is a breadth lesson. The goal is quick recognition in a real scene, not perfect same-day memorization. Important words will return in later travel, hotel, restaurant and transit scenes.
